Needle Roller Bearing

Needle roller bearings are an economical alternative for applications requiring minimal space to carry a given load at a desired speed.

Needle roller bearings are an economical alternative for applications requiring minimal space to carry a given load at a desired speed.

They can be an ideal choice because of their ability to handle a given level of speed and load capacity, yet have the smallest cross section of all roller bearing types.

At JTEKT we offer an extensive range of premium quality metric and inch needle roller bearings of Koyo.

  • Radial Needle Roller and Cage Assemblies
  • Drawn Cup Needle Roller Bearings
  • Drawn Cup Roller Clutches
  • Heavy-duty Needle Roller Bearings
  • Track Rollers
  • Thrust Bearings, Assemblies, Washers
  • Combined Needle Roller Bearings
  • Zero clearance ball and needle bearings for steering columns
  • Needle Rollers, pins
  • Seals

Bearing 3D
FAQ

What is an angular contact ball bearing?

An angular contact ball bearing uses axially asymmetric races. An axial load passes in a straight line through the bearing, whereas a radial load takes an oblique path that tends to want to separate the races axially. So the angle of contact on the inner race is the same as that on the outer race. Angular contact bearings better support "combined loads" (loading in both the radial and axial directions) and the contact angle of the bearing should be matched to the relative proportions of each. The larger the contact angle (typically in the range 10 to 45 degrees), the higher the axial load supported, but the lower the radial load. In high speed applications, such as turbines, jet engines, and dentistry equipment, the centrifugal forces generated by the balls changes the contact angle at the inner and outer race. Ceramics such as silicon nitride are now regularly used in such applications due to their low density (40% of steel). These materials significantly reduce centrifugal force and function well in high temperature environments. They also tend to wear in a similar way to bearing steel—rather than cracking or shattering like glass or porcelain.

Most bicycles use angular-contact bearings in the headsets because the forces on these bearings are in both the radial and axial direction.

Thrust ball bearing

Thrust ball bearings are divided into single and double direction types. The former is able to accommodate axial load in one direction, while the latter is able to accommodate it in both directions. Neither is suitable for applications that involve radial load or high-speed rotation.

Tapered roller bearing

Available as single or double row, in metric and inch sizes, they can be produced as either TDO (one double cup and two single row cones) and TDI (one double cone and two single row cups). This type of bearings is designed so that the cups, cones and rollers have tapered surfaces whose apexes converge at a common point on the bearing axis. This type is suitable for applications involving heavy or impact loading.

Spherical roller bearing

These types of bearings are self-aligning and feature a large load rating capacity. Therefore, spherical roller bearings are suitable for low/medium speed applications which involve heavy or impact loading. They come with cylindrical or tapered bores and can be supplied with adapter assemblies as well as withdrawal sleeves.
